Q. I've heard around that it is possible to keep an all male malawi peacock cichlid tank without the males always fighting...apparently, males with only fight with other males that have similar colors, but if the colors are diverse enough, they won't bother eachother... is this true? for example: based on what ive heard, a male sunshine peacock(yellow with blue face) wont fight with a male German red Peacock? Since I have responded to your latter question and know your plan, I would say this, as it relates to the other answer. Breeding would be your hinge point. If you going to breed them, you need isolation tanks if you want fry to make it. If breeding is not on your mind go with an all male tank. If breeding is on the mind, you have isolation tanks, then stay with one species only to eliminate potential cross breeds. Spotting males isn't hard, it's the females of different species can be challenging. Dull and drab with no color, looks can often be mistaken from one species to another, even by the fish themselves.
